The most-seen surfaces in the house. Backsplashes, range walls, and feature surfaces aligned to cabinetry down to the millimeter.
The Craft
Kitchen tile lives at eye level, under directional lighting, surrounded by the straight lines of cabinetry and stone counters. There is nowhere to hide an eighth of an inch. We lay out every backsplash from the room's controlling lines — centering on the range, aligning with upper cabinets, and planning cuts so they fall where the eye doesn't go.
We install everything from full-height porcelain and stone slab backsplashes to handmade zellige and ceramic with intentionally irregular edges — each demanding its own approach to spacing, grout, and edge finishing. Outlets and switches are coordinated in advance so covers land cleanly within the tile grid.

The questions homeowners and builders ask us most about this work — answered the way we'd answer them across a table.
- How long does a backsplash installation take?
- A typical custom backsplash takes two to four days including layout, setting, grouting, and sealing. Slab backsplashes and handmade tile with tight joints can take longer — precision at eye level is worth the extra day.
- Should the backsplash go in before or after countertops?
- After. Counters establish the controlling line for the whole backsplash, and templating against the installed counter avoids gaps. We coordinate scheduling with your fabricator and builder.
- What is zellige, and why does it look different once installed?
- Zellige is hand-cut, hand-glazed Moroccan clay tile with natural variation in tone, flatness, and edge. It's meant to be set with minimal joints so the surface shimmers with irregularity. That variation is the point — but it takes an installer who understands the material to make it read as intentional.
- Do you handle the electrical outlets in the backsplash?
- We coordinate outlet and switch placement with your electrician before tile goes up — shifting boxes to land within the grid where possible — and cut tile precisely around them so covers sit flush and centered.
