The Craft
Natural stone forgives nothing. Every slab and every tile is unique, which is why we dry-lay stone installations before setting them — arranging veining and tone across the whole field so the finished surface reads as one composition rather than a random scatter. On book-matched work, we sequence pieces from the quarry lot and confirm the layout with you before a single piece is fixed.
Stone also demands the right technique underneath: white thinsets that won't shadow through pale marble, membranes that isolate cracks in the substrate, and sealing matched to the stone's porosity. We've spent years learning what each material needs, and it shows in how our installations age.

- Is marble a practical choice for a bathroom or kitchen?
- Yes, when it's installed and sealed correctly and you accept that marble develops character over time. It etches with acids and patinas with use — many of our clients consider that the point. For clients who want the look without the patina, we often recommend marble-look porcelain or harder stones like quartzite.
- What's the difference between book-matching and vein-matching?
- Book-matched slabs are consecutive cuts opened like a book, mirroring each other across a seam. Vein-matching sequences pieces so the veining flows continuously in one direction. Both require planning at the fabrication stage, which is why we get involved before the stone is cut.
- Do you help source the stone itself?
- We regularly accompany clients and designers to slab yards to evaluate lots before purchase — checking for warping, fissures, and tonal consistency that photographs hide. Sourcing the right material is half the installation.
- How do you protect natural stone during construction?
- Finished stone gets rigid surface protection, taped seams, and controlled traffic until handoff. On active job sites we coordinate with the builder's schedule so stone goes in late enough to stay pristine.
